The University of California Irvine is a public land-grant research university in Irvine, CA. Located on the west coast of California, it is one of the nation’s most popular and innovative research universities. It offers a wide range of programs and degrees, including doctoral studies and graduate work. In addition to its research activities, the University also conducts a wide range of undergraduate and graduate studies, ranging from business and education to environmental studies and international affairs.
The University of California, Irvine offers a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree. The UC Irvine MPH program is CEPH-accredited and prepares students for careers as health care strategists and leaders. The UC Irvine Medical Center is one of the top 50 hospitals in the nation. Its clinical and basic science departments consist of more than 500 faculty members and five hundred medical residents. After Aldrich Hall was finished, construction was temporarily halted on campus. Construction resumed in the late 1980s and continues today. During this second building boom, the school introduced more modern, colorful architecture. This was counter-productive to the earthy organic designs of the early buildings. Architects such as Frank Gehry were hired to update the campus. However, internal politics and an inadequate capital budget forced a change in direction.
A number of students in underrepresented communities are receiving financial support through the Alberto Radillo Scholarship. Dr. Mendoza Patterson actively supported students from historically underserved communities. The Chicano Latino Council also gives funding to undergraduates who demonstrate civic engagement and activism.
